WHO IS MARNI NIXON?

Who is Marni Nixon? You've heard her voice in so many songs! She was the voice of Natalie Wood on the WEST SIDE STORY soundtrack., She was the singing voice of Deborah Kerr in THE KING AND I and the singing voice of Audrey Hepburn in MY FAIR LADY. She sang Marilyn Monroe's high notes in DIAMONDS ARE A GIRL'S BEST FRIEND. She sang Rita Moreno's part in the TONIGHT quintet in West Side Story) but they wouldn't give her full royalties for her performance on that film. Leonard Bernstein only agreed to pay her 1/4 of what she was owed. She sang Natalie Wood's high notes in GYPSY. FINALLY!! ... Marni was seen on-screen as Sister Sophia in THE SOUND OF MUSIC. She was the voice of Grandmother Fa in Disney's MULAN. In 2011, Nixon was the recipient of the George Peabody Award for Outstanding Contributions to American Music. We need to appreciate this uber-talented soprano for the superstar she is! We lost her in 2016. Her son, Andrew Gold had a Top 40 hit with LONELY BOY and the theme for the Golden Girls THANK YOU FOR BEING A FRIEND.

Cheers to Marni whom I've known about for years but thought it was high time I shared information about her on my singing lesson page. Please research her rich catalogue of performances!
