For Kathy, it's all about one thing: VOICE ! There is a focus on two things in Kathy's life - Teaching voice, and performing. Since her first performance at age 16, Kathy has been a busy professional singer, getting her roots as a Voice Major in the Fine Arts Humber College Music program in Toronto, Canada and studying with a variety of private voice teachers. Kathy then joined the military and was posted in Ottawa where after Basic Training, Sergeant Thompson was the vocalist for the Royal Canadian Air Force 55-piece Central Band for 3 years, and was also a staff music copyist/calligrapher. Since then she has done performances numbering into the thousands: clubs, festivals, corporate events, private functions, television, film & recordings. |

Through the 1980's and 1990's, Kathy established her own band with a repertoire of over 400 songs for corporate and private functions, as well as the RSVP Jazz Quartet. She was a founding member of The Singers Guild of Toronto and was then elected to the Board of Directors, Toronto Musicians' Association / American Federation of Musicians for a two year term. She was also active on the Public Relations Committee to support the art of live music. Kathy was the editor of the "See the Music" live talent guide. All the while, she has done film work like standing in for Debbie Reynolds…there have been commercial jingles, many for Irwin Toys as the voice of a little girl. She studied animation voice acting in Los Angeles and Toronto, and jazz dance as well as Comedy Improv at Second City and Theatresports Toronto, Level V. Kathy was a singing host at Mark Breslin's venue "Sing Sing"; Mark is the owner of Yuk Yuk's chain of stand-up comedy clubs. Kathy composed, published and distributed 3 independent recordings on CD, which still receive Canadian airplay, most notably her Christmas song "The Gift of Love". She won a Scarborough Arts Council Award for one of her original country songs. She was featured singing the music of Harry James in the Toronto Jazz Festival, Canada Day '99 Nathan Phillips Square, and has performed the principal role of the groom's mother for many years in the hilarious musical comedy improv show "Joey & Gina's Comedy Wedding" (DeAngelis Entertainment) as the tipsy, dysfunctional "Hot Mama" Giovanna Prosciutto. Although her main calling is to teach voice at her Toronto studio, Kathy still does live performances singing jazz, as a celebrity tribute artist, and sings with various bands for events. Kathy says, "One of the reasons I continue to do live singing and acting performances is because being on a stage keeps my performing edge sharp, which is dedicated energy I always bring to students during singing lessons." |
As the president of PURE VOICE POWER, Kathy does interactive voice and speech educational seminars and training workshops for the corporate world, for actors and comedians, and anyone who wants to improve their speaking voice. Kathy will teach you how to take care of your voice, how it works, how to improve it, practice warm-ups for speakers and improve confidence for public speaking or presentations. |
She is a member of the CE faculty at Toronto's Centennial College and teaches occasional public classes on voice use. "When I began my career in 1977, I had no idea of the fascinating mix of challenges, discovery, frustration, fulfillment and exhaustion lie ahead. I have learned to become a true self-starter, thanks to thousands of mentors and those who inspire me to excel. While it's true that work lives in creation, it couples with dedication and persistence to make you strong! It's like a muscle you build. When you believe, and manifest passion through joy on the journey of pursuing your life's goal, then the work becomes a way of life and an integral part of each day. You grow to love -and even crave -the work with your whole soul. All any of us can gravitate towards is giving forth in our community, creating a good, just life for you and your family, and living in positivity and growth, |
so that we can leave the world a better place because we were here. The most wonderful thing is that when I go to sleep each night, I rest knowing that I did my best that day. I would hope that this website is much more than a glorified business card. I want it to be a place of learning and inspiration. While I have the opportunity to write some of my thoughts here for all to see, I will take this opportunity to thank everyone who has touched my life. You have all been my teachers and we were connected somehow. There is no place here for a discussion on human destiny or free will. However, I do believe we enter each other's lives for a reason that may not be apparent to us at the time. It is the sum of our adventures - and what we make of them - that makes us the person we are today. If that is true, then in essence, I owe thanks to everyone I have ever known. I look forward to continually testing my limits of personal evolution and service to others in the time I have been blessed with on this journey. May we all thrive in purpose."
